Downhill skier David Poisson dies in training accident crash

The France star, 35, died in Canada and won a bronze medal in the downhill at the 2013 world championships


DOWNHILL skier David Poisson has tragically died in a training accident.
The 35-year-old crashed at the Canadian resort of Nakiska.

The French skiing federation confirmed the news in a statement - but did not elaborate on the nature of the crash.
A release read: "David Poisson, 35, member of the French Alpine Ski Team, World Championship medallist in 2013, died accidentally following a fall during training at the Canadian Nakiska station.
"Devastated by this news, Michel Vion, president, Fabien Saguez, national technical director and all of the sports and administrative staff of the federation, join the pain of his loved ones in these particularly difficult times."
Poisson won the bronze medal in the downhill at the 2013 World Championships.

He was fourth in the prestigious Kitzbuehel downhill in 2013.
Poisson was training for the upcoming World Cup races in North America when involved in the fatal crash.
Brit star Chemmy Alcott tweeted: "Absolutely tragic. Such a lovely man. Thoughts and love to his family. So sad."
Kelly VanderBeek, a former member of Canada's Olympic alpine ski team, expressed her grief upon hearing the news.

She tweeted: "My heart goes out to the entire community, but especially his family, friends, and all those who loved him."
American alpline ski racer Steven Nyman said: "Is this true about David Poisson? So sad... I can't believe it."
