Doris Day is celebrating her 90th birthday ( or her 92th?) in Carmel today. Did you know that all of Doris Day's grandparents were German immigrants?  There are rumours that Betty MacDonald fan club founder Wolfgang Hampel once met Doris Day in person during his research on Betty MacDonald.  Betty MacDonald Memorial Award Winner Wolfgang Hampel visited California because Betty MacDonald owned a cattle ranch in Carmel Valley.
